“For more than 130 years, the American Red Cross has been helping people, including those in need of blood transfusions, in communities across the US. It is the only blood services organization that also provides disaster relief, services for active and veteran military personnel and their families, and health and safety preparedness training.
Vacation plans and summer activities often cause donors to be less available to give. Many schools where blood drives are held are out of session during the summer months, which makes it an especially difficult time to collect enough blood to meet the needs of hospital patients.
Your donations may help accident victims, organ transplant patients and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.

Dr. Kraff Receives the 2009 Benjamin Rush Award

Dr. Manus Kraff, M.D. was awarded the Benjamin Rush Award for Citizenship and Community Services by the American Medical Association. In 2005, Dr. Kraff performed over 200 Laser Vision Correction surgeries free of charge for military service men and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan after September 11, 2001.

The award recognizes physicians who have gone above and beyond their professional call of duty to make an outstanding public service contribution to their local community. His award was presented during the opening of the 2009 Interim Meeting of the AMA House of Delegates in Houston, Texas.
“Dr. Kraff’s generosity in providing free eye care to those who have put their lives in danger to serve our country demonstrates an extraordinary act of kindness and selflessness,” said J. James Rohack, M.D., President of the American Medical Association. “Dr. Kraff leads by example and is an inspiration to other physicians, and we are honored that he has been an AMA member for 29 years.”
